NEWS
SHAKE UP AT OBSERVER, AS MD OTHERS SET UP A TASK FORCE TO PROBE STAFFERS

BY OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 16, 2005
A shake up is reported to have taken place at Gambia's pro-government
Newspaper, The Daily Observer, following revelations made by the US based
leading online Newspaper, The ALLGAMBIAN that an Observer journalist
insider authored the piece captioned "NEW OBSERVER MD LINE UP SOME
STAFFERS TO BE FIRED.", which provoked what many observers called a
hostile and malicious reaction from the paper's new management team headed
by disgraced so called intellectual Dr. Saja Taal.

Our correspondent at the Observer said Dr. Taal, who was criss crossing
from office to office within the Observer company, could be seen showing
staffers The ALLGAMBIAN publication on the said story, which provoked a
war of words between the two papers. Dr. Taal whose pant was toured on the
back was reported to have threatened to deal with the said Observer
insider who leaked the proceedings of his meeting with the paper's
editorial staff to The ALLGAMBIAN Newspaper.

Consequently said our reporter, Dr. Taal has with immediate effect set up
a secret task force to investigate the said Observer insider leaking
Observer's "classified information to The ALLGAMBIAN." The ALLGAMBIAN
gathered an observer editorial board member, who is very close to the
paper's board and Dr. Taal himself was said to have been tasked to monitor
the activities of his colleagues at the Observer and report anybody who is
suspected of passing information to The ALLGAMBIAN editors in the US. "The
person assigned to do this investigations worked with us and is closely
monitoring phone calls and email messages passing through the Observer. We
have every reason to believe that they are out to trace this Observer
insider writing stories for The ALLGAMBIAN. We are aware of the said task
force and will do whatever it takes not to fall into their trap." said an
Observer insider.

According to information available to us, Dr. Taal's attention was drawn
to The ALLGAMBIAN story captioned "New Observer management take issue with
ALLGAMBIAN editors" by his brother the Secretary of State for Fisheries
and Natural Resources Bai Mass Taal, who reportedly droved to the Observer
shortly after the said story was published. Fisheries minister Taal, who
is a blood relation to the disgraced Observer new MD was said to have down
loaded The ALLGAMBIAN editorial captioned DAILY OBSERVER STRANGERS ON
RAMPAGE AGAIN -WE CAN SMELL THE SMOKE OF MARIJUWANA IN THEIR OFFICES and a
rejoinder sent to us by Dr. Saja Taal and his new management and was
published together with our Chief Editor's reaction Pa Nderry M'Bai. Bai
Mass Taal who appeared concerned by the ALLGAMBIAN publications on his
brother was said to have handed the said pieces to Dr. Taal for reading.
In fact our Observer insider correspondent said Fisheries Minister spent
some couple of hours with his brother Dr. Taal in his office to brain
storm on what was widely perceived as damaging revelations made on the
person of Dr. Taal by The ALLGAMBIAN.

Meanwhile The ALLGAMBIAN also gathered that Dr. Taal was said to have told
local observer editorial staff that he (Dr. Taal) will be "checking their
editorial content on a daily bases and would also take part on the paper's
late evening editing."

As we went to press, anxiety and worry continues to grip Observer local
staffers, as Dr. Taal is said to have vowed to trace this ALLGAMBIAN
insider correspondent spilling the beans at the Observer.
