Dibba- Daily ObserverFriday, 09 September 2005 The four Nadd candidates for the September 29 by-elections - Halifa Sallah (Serekunda Central), Sidia Jatta (Wuli West), Hamat Bah (Upper Saloum) and Kemeseng Jammeh (Jarra West) might not be nominated for the elections, if the content of a letter the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has sent to the coordinator of the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (Nadd) is anything to go by.
According to the letter, IEC claims  that the four candidates have contravened Section 106 (1) of the Electoral Decree  which requires candidates to notify IEC of certain changes in the parties. “If a change occurs in relation to the secretariat or registered officers of a political party the political party shall notify the commission in writing of the change(s) within thirty days after the date in which such change has occurred,” the Decree stipulates.


As a result, the IEC has written to remind the candidates of this lapse and do something about it before Monday.

 “There is an urgent need to notify the IEC of such changes prior to the nominations of Halifa Sallah and Sidia Jatta both registered officers of PDOIS, Hamat NK Bah  of the NRP and Kemeseng Jammeh UDP’s assistant secretary in the Lower River Division. Please confirm in writing that the above mentioned former members of both the National Assembly and their parties are no longer officers or members of the said parties,’’ the letter concluded.
