Business and governments meet to discuss Africa’s brain drain

Chief executives and human resources executives from some of Africa’s
leading investors meet in Lagos in December for the Global skills for
Africa seminar, which will develop an action plan to improve Africa’s
skills shortages and reverse the brain drain.

Recommendations from the two-day seminar, which brings together 150
delegates, from around the world, will be forwarded to the Commonwealth
Business Forum and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to be held
in Abuja Nigeria.
AfricaRecruit and the Corporate Council on Africa, which seeks to promote
American business interests in Africa and expand private sector development
on the continent, are organizing the seminar. AfricaRecruit has been
endorsed by NEPAD and Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo who said he
believed in the value of bringing Africans back home.

The seminar, which runs from the 1st to 2nd December, will discuss the
common issues and challenges around Africa’s brain drain, identify and
collaborate on innovative and best practices in tackling the human resource
shortages in Africa.

Delegates to the seminar will include human resources directors from the
private; public and non-governmental sectors in addition to policy makers;
labor officials; recruitment agencies and members of the African Diaspora.

The Nigerian newspaper, This Day and telecommunications giants Econet
Wireless are sponsoring the seminar.
