Gambian Wins Queen of Africa Pageant

Fatima Jabbe, a London-based Gambian beauty, has been crowned the Queen of
Africa when after winning the United Kingdom Pageant held at Berkeley Hotel
in London, the model said.

Fatima, 23, beat 20 contestants representing other African countries
including Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Somalia and South Africa 31
December 2000, she PANA in Banjul, where is currently visiting.

The contest, she disclosed, involved a two-day debate in which contestants
were asked by a panel of judges led by Suzanne Jones, president of the Black
Women Association in London, to give reasons why their countries should be
considered the best in Black Africa.

Fatima said she was selected on the basis of her victories in the Miss
Afro-Caribbean 1998, the Face of The Millennium 2000 pageants and
performance during the audition.

Her prize included 5,000 pounds cash, part of which she already donated to
the Sickle Cell Foundation in London.

Fatima, whose Fabecs Production organised the Queen of the Millennium
Pageant in Banjul last April disclosed that she is finalising arrangements
for next month's Women Excellence Awards in Banjul.

She said prominent Gambians including the country's vice president, the
First Lady Zainab Jammeh and Isatou Njie Saidy have been invited to grace
the Awards.

She said the achievements of 20 distinguished Gambian women would be
highlighted at the ceremony through different categories of awards such as
Lifetime Achievement Award, the Most Enterprising Woman Award and the Female
Doctor Award.
