If change must come it should only come through the ballot box. Like you
rightly pointed out, during jawara's rule there came a time when people
earnestly wanted change. But unfortunately that change seemed unlikely until
he was overthrown.

Let's pray that the upcoming elections will be free, fair and reflective of
the will of the majority of the people. I also hope that whatever the
outcome is, our "Gambianness" is maintained. While the victor may celebrate,
the vanquished should have the decency to accept the fact that it is the
will of the people and accept defeat in good faith. That is the only way
forward. As Sir Henry Cambell-Bannerman puts it "Good government can never
be a substitute for government by the people themselves".
