Dear compatriots,

I can't help but comment on Jammeh's contempt of Gambians, his arrogance and
outright ignorance of any human decency as he is currently trumpeting in his
on-going campaign utterances.
At a rally in Barra last week, Jammeh instead of humbling himself and
pleading for the people to vote for him resumed his crude threats to the
people, whose lives he has only succeeded in making more impoverished and
miserable. He announced that those constituencies that fail to vote for him
will not benefit from his 'development projects'. This assertion tells all
about the attitude, psychology, maturity, sanity or whatever is the fitting
description of this maniac unfortunately leading us. He is nothing short of
a disgrace to the entire Gambian nation.
At this point, i recall the comments of a fellow African student about
President Jammeh and Gambians in general after we viewed together a
documentary shown over British TV in 1996. The interview was during the
transition when Jammeh was attired in a military outfit and Arch 22 was
under construction. In the interview, further to his usual self-righteous
gibberish ramblings and rhetorics, Jammeh threatened to bury 'six-feet deep'
anybody who earns his wrath. Upon this, my friend following his usual rather
loud laugh asked in the following exact words while pointing at Jammeh on
the TV screen,'Is this man really your president?'I understood the sarcasm
of his question but nontheless answered thruthfully with a yes, although at
that moment i felt like vanishing in thin air. After this my friend laughed
even more and said 'he is a joke and you (meaning Gambians)are all a
joke.'Boy, i was so embrassed even angry and therefore without further
thought lashed out on my friend for his comments that Gambians are a joke,
although later partially agreed with him that Jammeh was indeed like a joke
which is real. I also explained to my friend that the miltary's seizure of
power in the Gambia was to a large extent facilitated by the US, which in
effect meant that Jammeh was imposed on the Gambia. At this stage, my friend
sympathise with the Gambia and apologise for his general comment.
Back to Jammeh's contempt etc, he potrays himself as the almighty benefactor
of Gambians or even like a prince who inherited massive personal wealth from
his deceased father; the former king and that he will only give charities to
the beggars who do as he wishes them to. Jammeh has been controlling the
Gambian treasury since July 1994 but we all know that prior to then he was a
pauper. He ought to be reminded that his riches or the monies he stole from
the coffers were the contributions of the very people he is always
threatening. Doesn't Jammeh have friends with the decency to remind him of
this simple thruth but prides come before a 'supajalang' and our bloody
dictator will be no exception to this fate.

The yoke of oppression must be shattered!

BMK
