Aziz, thanks for your comments. Although this crisis arose in the name of
soccer, however, it is not about soccer. It has to do with the anger that
both sides have been sitting on due to marginalization, economic decay,
political repression, etc., that both peoples are suffering from. Both
needed an outlet and this soccer match created the perfect venue. As I
write, both economies are stagnant or desperate and the unemployment ranks,
hunger ranks, among other life pressures are ballooning daily. This is
displaced aggression. You will not see the elete or those that have
something going for them to participate in this crisis (looting, fighting,
etc.). It is those that are most affect by the macro economic policies of
the two governments that are the participants.

Gambians can avoid such uncontrolled outbursts if we start to address the
crisis that our country is faced with created by Yaya Jammeh. Yaya has
starved us to death and we are yet to cough, but we a pissed off as hell and
ready to find any scapegoat. This time it is the Senegalese, before it was
the Guineans, Mauritanians, etc. How many times has Senegal also gone this
route with Mauritania? Also, in the past months, we have witnessed the many
tosslings and justlings at the borders and various forms of economic blocade
exercised by both peoples.

Chi jaama

>>Hi!
>> Thanks Ndey, Pierre, Sidibeh and Joe for adding valuable
>>perspectives to this troublesome issue. I hope the authorities try
>>hard to restore good neighbourliness. A welcome development is that
>>Gen. Niang, after meeting Gambian authorities and receiving assurances
>>from them, informed the 200 Senegalese who sought refuge at the
>>Senegalese Embassy that the Senegalese Government would not be
>>involved in repatriating them. He was booed. He however told them that
>>anyone who feels like returning to Senegal can do so on his / her own.
>>A worrying issue is however the current anti-Gambian sentiments in
>>Senegal. During a call-in program on Wal Fadjri, all the callers said
>>their government should repatriate Senegalese in Gambia. Some were
>>quite strong in their sentiments. One even went as far as saying that
>>Senegal should chew and spit Gambia like a banana. There are also
>>strong anti-Senegalese sentiments among Gambians. I hope we all calm
>>down and work toward restoring peace in our subregion. Thanks.
