NEWS
ALFUSAINE CORA DEAD AT 45
Body Returns to Banjul Sunday
By Ebrima G. Sankareh

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 22, 2005
Mr Alfusaine Cora formerly of The Gambia Anti-Aparthied Movement has died
of cancer at age 45. Cora, a native of Brikama and a veteran of the
post-indepedence struggle was resident in Atlanta, Georgia in the US since
1992 until his death at Grady Memorial Hospital on Tuesday October 11th,
2005.

Before coming to the US, Cora was an agricultural field worker for several
years. He later matriculated to the then Yundum College. In his final year
in 1980 students went on a strike and the college was closed. Thereafter,
he work with the Public Works Department at Basse. He left and became a
founder member of The Gambia Anti-aparthied Movement. Later on Mr. Cora
was active in the struggle for democratic political change as evident in
his involvement with the People's Democratic Organization for Independence
& Socialism(PDOIS). He came to US in 1992, enrolled at Atlanta Technical
College and graduated in Electrical Applications.

Until his death, Alfusaine maintained a very private persona with an
unwavering commitment to freedom and equality in a world riddled with
inequality and injustice. As a family friend, I was privileged to visit
his room. Its setting punctuates Alfusaine's life more than anything else.
The walls are a gallary of eye-catching images of Mandela, Cabral, Nkrumah
and Malcolm X. Personalities and characters that personify the life
Alfusaine sought to live. A life of profound sacrifices and suferring for
the betterment of mankind.

His remains left Atlanta Friday October 21st, and are scheduled to be in
Banjul on Sunday the 23rd at 5:20 pm. Honorable Halifa Sallah, and the
entire PDOIS leadership is expected to be at the airport with the Cora
family. Mr. Cora is survived by his mother, Aja Ceesay Conteh, his twin
brother Alhasan Cora, his brothers, Dr. Mamadi Cora a Sociology professor
in North Carolina and Muhamed Cora and sisters.
