The organising committee of the ongoing Super Nawettan tournament, under the
guidance of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) would not be treating the
stone hurling antics of Gunjurians, over the weekend, lightly. It all
erupted when Gunjur failed to land a place in the last four of the Super
Nawettan, losing 2-0 at home to Serekunda West. Their fans did not
sportingly take in the defeat, venting their fury by orchestrating a
downpour of stones.

According to GFA officials, the Gunjur case would be high on the agenda of
the organizing committee's next meeting. 'Gunjur's action was completely
against the rules and regulations governing football' they told Independent
Sports.

They added that based on the report of referee, the match commissioner and
the GFA officials who were at the encounter; they will take the proper
action against Gunjur.

The Gunjurians took to stones after full time, highly exasperated that
central referee, Ansu Jatta, disallowed a goal in the opening minutes of the
second half.

The security forces, assigned with maintaining law and order, took to their
heels when the stone 'rain' became unbearable and intensifying.

Sports journalists also had to bolt to safety.

The second vice-president of the GFA, Mr. Seedy Kinteh, who tried in vain to
calm the situation was countered with furious snarls.

'Retaliation is not a crime' the Gunjurians chanted. According to them, it
was a case of tit for tat as the Serekunda West lot attacked them when they
were away.
