BREAKING NEWS:KOMBO EAST SET FOR BY-ELECTIONS-IEC CHARIMAN NJIE DECLARES
           By Staff writer Akaleke

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) yesterday issued a press release announcing the preparations made towards holding another by-election, following the sudden demise of the post holder Honorable Mr.Kebba Touray who passed away on March 15th 2006, while undergoing medical treatment in Havana Cuba. The release signed by Mr. Ndondi S Z Njie Chairman of the Commission states that the by-election will take place on Saturday 13th May 2006. This according to the release is in accordance with section 91 (3) of the 1997 constitution of the republic of the Gambia and section 84 of the Electoral degree of 1996.

  ELECTION TIME IN THE GAMBIA

The release went further to say prospective candidates will be nominated on Wednesday 26th April 2006 between the hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm at the IEC regional office in Brikama. Nomination forms can be collected at the IEC regional office in Brikama and its head office along Kairaba Avenue for
free of charge. Campaign starts on Friday 28th April and ends on Thursday 11th May 2006. In the same vein, the IEC has appointed Mrs. Sarah Grey-Johnson as the returning officer.

It could be recalled that Mr. Kebba Touray died while in Cuba for medical treatment and that led to the vacancy of the post. Mr. Touray was elected under the APRC ticket and now here is another chance for the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD) to prove to Gambians that it is still very strong. The question many are asking here is :Will UDP/NRP coalition posed as a threat to both APRC and NADD is the multi million dollar question?
