Gambia-L:

The unedited e-mail below, is an old mail sent by one of my sources in The
Gambia, on the 24th March 2001. It is stale now, but I thought it is still
important to send it, just for the record.

>Subject: Yahya Jammeh is selling Kairaba Hotel : WHY?

>Ebrima,
>Yahya, who purchased Kairaba for a little over $5 million barely a year
>ago, has quietly place the hotel on the real estate market for sale. Why?
>Because of the following reasons: (a) He is now finally convinced that he
>cannot survive the renewed international pressures brought to bear on his
>regime from the Commonwealth, the UN, the British Gvernment and other
>organisations. His regime will certainly fall come next elections (b) the
>projected revenue stream that his accountants and business associates
>predicted has not been realised because the projected occupancy rates have
>proven to be a serious over estimation based on overly optimistic
>assumptions and (c) he is now strapped for cash to settle his liabilities.
>However, he will have the shock of his life when he realises that those
>with the means will not be interested in investing in the Gambia much more
>a hotel owned by an international outcast and corrupt individual like Yahya
>Jammeh. Potential investors are also aware of the fact that buying any
>thing owned by Yahya Jammeh only to be reclaimed by the rightful owners
>i.e. by the Gambian people is a total waste of money.
