GRANTS FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

Friends, Please pass along the following announcement to any qualifying
individuals you may know.

Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Business Grant Competition is open to
eligible, aspiring entrepreneurs between the ages of 21-30.

The competition offers the opportunity for up-and-coming businessmen and
women to vie for one of four $20,000 business grants being offered across
the country.

Whether a business already exists or is in its start-up stages, eligible
entrepreneurs may submit a business plan along with an official
application by Friday, December 20, 2002.

Eight finalists will be chosen and flown to Chicago to present in front
of
successful national business leaders, entrepreneurs and representatives
from colleges and university business schools. The business grant
competition is one component of the Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series - a
program created to educate and support urban entrepreneurs, which
includes a seminar series that travels to Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta
and New York.

Applications for the 2002 business grant competition are available at
each
seminar and at partnering organization headquarters. Program partners
include Recycling Black Dollars in Los Angeles, the Atlanta Business
League, the Chicago Urban League and the Greater Harlem Chamber of
Commerce in New York. For more information about the grant, contact

Opportunity for high school students TELLURIDE SUMMER '03

Telluride Association sponsors free, 6-week academic summerprograms
for high school sophomores and juniors with Indiana U., U. of Michigan,
Cornell U., and U.Texas, Austin. Information about the programs,
including seminar topics at each location as well as faculty names and
affiliations, are online at www.tellurideassociation.org. The Call for
Nominations below outlines the process through which we collect names of
students to whom we will mail applications in mid-December.

In addition to sharing the names of young people you know, please feel
free to forward this message and the call for Nominations below (for the
10th grade program) to high school teachers, youth pastors, mentors, or
other community leaders who might know qualified high school students.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS:

You are invited to nominate 10th grade students to apply for a full
scholarship to the Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar (TASS) summer
program. We must receive all nominations by December 9, 2002.

What is a TASS? A free six-week seminar for thirty-two high school
students, co-sponsored with Indiana University, Bloomington, and the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

At each TASS, sixteen students live in a dorm at the host school and
participate in an academic seminar led by two college professors. The
seminars-which investigate a topic in African American studies-meet for
three hours each weekday, throughout the program.

The faculty ask students to read carefully, consider controversial ideas
from many perspectives, and
express their ideas clearly in writing and discussion. Individual writing
and computer tutelage from
college-age mentors and one-on-one meetings with the faculty round out
the seminar experience. Outside the classroom, students attend guest
lectures and cultural events, hone their public speaking skills, engage
in community service, and forge lifelong friendships with other bright,
highly motivated students.

We seek applicants from around the country interested in engaging their
peers in intellectual conversation, grappling with academic challenges,
and enjoying group living.

Although the TASS seminars have an African American focus, applications
from all interested high school sophomores are welcome. The application
process is competitive, but once selected, all student costs except
travel are covered (travel scholarships are available). Our policy is
that no student be barred from attending TASS for financial reasons.

Nominations should be sent to:

Ellen Baer, Administrative Director
Telluride Association
Fax: (607) 272-2667
e-mail: [log in to unmask]

Applications will be mailed to students at the address you supply.

Please encourage your nominees to complete the application by alerting
them that an application is on its way and that you have shared their
name with Telluride Association.
