UNIQUE JOB POSSIBILITY FOR AFRICAN TALENT with AMSCO UNITED NATIONS PROJECT

We are seeking 3 African Project officers for our offices in Nigeria,
Ghana,
Cote D'IVoire and Zimbabwe.
Candidates will be employed in the AMSCO regional offices in these
copuntries
and should preferably be nationals of the country. The job description
is
attached below (see point 1)

Our organisation, AMSCO, is part of the UNITED NATIONS and we provide
management, training and co-financement assistance to companies in
Africa.
At present AMSCO serves 84 companies in Africa with management (to date
we have
193 expatriate managers working at these 84 companies) and training
(last year
we trained 1600 local managers) and training funding (1998 we disbursed
3.5 M US
$ in training funding).

1) JOB TITLE: PROJECT OFFICER
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:





*    Carries out public relation and information activities on behalf
of the RM
or DMD
*    Identifies an agreed number of viable prospects per working year,
where
AMSCO can be usefully employed;
*    Assists the RM or DMD in formulating departmental business
strategy;
*    Assists the RM or DMD in establishing contacts with
representatives and
experts of other organisations;
*    Appraises and determines the viability of prospects, in
consultation with
the RM or DMD ;
*    Formulates project requests for submission to the board of AMSCO;
*    Prepares terms of reference for consultancy missions and
co-ordinates,
supervises and evaluates these missions;
*    Negotiates management and training terms with clients, in
consultation with
the RM or DMD;
*    Prepares management and training proposals and concludes contracts
between
AMSCO and client companies;
*    Provides logistic support for projects;
*    Assists clients in identifying and securing funding for projects;
*    Co-ordinates and collaborates with MD Department in the
implementation of
training programmes for client           companies;
*    Draws up job descriptions for AMSCO managers in consultation with
the HR
Department;
*    Co-ordinates, in conjunction with the HR manager the process for
the
recruitment of field managers and actively         participates in
interviewing
candidates for field manager positions;
*    Provides sufficient project information to field
managers/consultants to
ensure successful commencement of field       assignments;
*    Compiles and summarises periodic progress reports of projects for
timely
management decisions;
*    Monitors and shares responsibility for the progress of each
project through
regular field visits;
*    Performs other duties as required.



The  travel requirement of this job is at least 40 days travel per
annum, with a

minimum of 4 weekends away.

2) Skills and experience needed for a local Project Officer .

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and skills:
Completion of higher education at university level, preferably with
courses in
finance, business management and marketing.
Experience:

2-6 years experience in a comparable position.

     proven experience in providing services to the industry or
services sector. 
marketing experience.

Languages:Excellent knowledge of English (and French if in Francophone
region)
