Folks, does Ousainou know the circumstance for his candidate's arrest or
not? May be this is a summary of what he told the point. If that is the
case, then my apologies. If not, I can't understand why this luke warm
reaction to this illegal arrest. Elections are approaching and your
candidate is arrested baselessly, and you are not demanding for his
immediate release, but to whisper for his release. May be if Ousainou is
arrested and spend time in jail, then will he understand the urgency of
situations. Mariam Denton was in the doc for months while he slow poked.
If Yaya did not decide to release her, she would have rot in jail. The same
with Shingle Nyassi, and many others.

"When contacted, the UDP party leader, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, confirmed
the story, charging that Famara Bojang’s arrest is politically motivated. Mr
Darboe lamented that Mr Bojang is even being denied visits from family
members or change of clothes. Mr Darboe therefore called on the Independent
Electoral Commission to monitor the circumstances surrounding Mr. Bojang’s
arrest, wondering aloud why he should be arrested now and not before his
nomination."

Now, I understand the business of being cool, calm, and collected, but not
in situations like these, especially when you know that the arrest was
politically motivated. What the situation demands is to demand his release
immediately or else. At what point in life does one say it's enough? How
do you expect your supporters to stand up when each time one is whisked
away, you come to lament. Ever since Yaya hung that murder charge on
Ousainou, it seems as if he is paralyzed by it.

I remember when Yaya illegally arrested Halifa, OJ and Hamat and we called
Ousainou to demand for their immediate release or else. Boy did he fight us
and said over his dead body will he ask anyone to risk their life. Who
asked anyone to risk anything. All we asked was for him to mobilize the
opposition supporters and give Yaya a different look. Well guess what, it
was not the fairness of the courts that led to their release, but the swell
of Gambians that attended the hearings and those responsible took note. The
nonsense of these harassments and illegal detentions will stop if you send a
clear message and back it up with a backbone. Dr. King did not fight with
the rednecks, but he dared them. Well, I guess I am comparing apples and
oranges. But any way, sometimes I wonder what it will take for Ousainou
forcefully challenge the illegal arrests of his supporters. It is not like
these people did anything illegal, thus why let them languish in jail for
months. Rambo is still in the last I check. Well, I guess he has a
following and I don't. If his followers don't mind, I guess I should mind
my business. Please read below.

Bakau UDP Candidate Arrested
Tuesday 9th January 2007

By Pa Modou B.O. Bojang & Ebrima Gillen

Mr Famara S. Bojang, the nominated candidate of the United Democracy Party
(UDP) for Bakau constituency in the forthcoming National Assembly election,
was reportedly arrested last Saturday.

According to our sources, Mr Bojang was picked up at his Bakau residence
shortly after he was nominated last Saturday. The sources added that Famara
S. Bojang is currently detained at the Wellingara Police Station.

However the reason for Mr. Bojang’s arrest could not be ascertain at the
time of going to press.

When contacted, the UDP party leader, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, confirmed the
story, charging that Famara Bojang’s arrest is politically motivated. Mr
Darboe lamented that Mr Bojang is even being denied visits from family
members or change of clothes. Mr Darboe therefore called on the Independent
Electoral Commission to monitor the circumstances surrounding Mr. Bojang’s
arrest, wondering aloud why he should be arrested now and not before his
nomination.
