The whereabouts of former Central Bank foreign exchange manger Lang Conteh
is attracting a lot of debate in the Gambia. Some say he had fled the
country, while others sources say he is on leave in the United States of
America. One report even went on to say Lang was spotted in Italy and had
telephone a local business firm of which he is the board chairman. He told
the firm that he was due to return to the country. Anyway whatever the case
might be, it is now clear that he had been asked to leave his office.
Compentent and reliable sources from Banjul say Lang went to the Central
Bank prior to his dissapearance to collect some of his office equipment.
Souces say Conteh who is widely viewed as rich civil servant usually
funished his office on his own. Nobody bothered to stop him, as he walk in
to collect his things. His business firm Camalot is still in operation.

The central Bank is said to be faced with acute shortages of bank notes.
Inflation is at its worst moment. In addtition sources say there is old
bank notes in circulation in the country, which economic experts say is not
normal. They say such old bank notes should not be in circulation.
