Lamin Waa Juwara leader of the NDAM party is today serving as a guest to
the NIA. He was picked up by four NIA officers and whisked away. His
arrest is connected to a story ran by the Independent today, in which Waa
urged Gambians go on a popular uprising. Waa says it is time for poverty
stricken Gambians to demonstrate against the regime, which he said had not
only brought untold economic hardship for the tiny west African country but
food shortages. His statement according to sources does not go down well
the Gambian authorities and thus ordered for his immediate arrest.

Yet in another development Jammeh Monday issued a decree urging all foreign
exchange dealers to surrender their foreign exchange monies or risked being
arrested. Jammeh issued an ultimatum that now against Wednesday that money
changer who fail to surrender his forign currencies to private banks would
subjected mass arrest. He blamed them for the nation's economic woes.
