Sister Jabou

Thank you for taking the time to reply/discuss this matter. Like most people on this list member and the few I talk to, I have the highest regard and admiration for you. I will do my best to answer most of your questions without sounding like a defender of President Jammeh. Upon doing so, I will would like to do the Mandinka saying "Mben na baal doondila" translation, lay the matter to rest.

Sis, the last time I checked, the rule of law is "innocent until proven guilty". If you agree with me, how do you explain your writing "So until that evidence is made available if this can be done, I would not exactly say that Jammeh won this election fair and clear without any funny games"? Again do not mistake me as a Jammeh supporter, for I will be the first to cry foul play when he is found guilty of rigging the elections. So until that proven, I will join the majority to congratulate him on his victory and smart strategy. As for the unfair advantages that he gave himself, this backs my reasoning that he has perfected Gambian politics as we all know it. He just perfected what PPP did during their era. Please agree with me that he is doing what his predecessors did, and might I add better. They pumped in lots of money and registered everyone that they knew would vote for them. Ask some of the Basse folks about the by-elections to replace Buba Baldeh. Besides, do you think all of my Fulla uncles and aunts in the Basse that voted for past years are Gambian citizens? Sister Jabou, we have a problem, and we cannot all of a sudden blame it on the APRC folks. Our registration and immigration system/policy needs to be worked on. If it is ever proven that Jammeh knowingly registered foreigners, I will put in me Dalasi (not two bututs).

Let me now address why I think historians MIGHT look at Jammeh favorably. Let's assume a career change for both Lawyer Darboe and Juwara as historians. I am willing to bet my last penny that former President Jawara will appear in their writings as one the greatest leaders of the Gambia. Now back to reality, I am sure that we all know that Lawyer Darboe spent most of his professional career defending innocent citizens against his now friend whom he considered a tyrant. Do you remember some of the random torturing following the Kukoi Coup d'état? I can still vividly remember some of the pictures in the daily newspaper back then. I feel your pain for the all the victims, and I wished Jammeh would now let the people exercise their constitutional rights.

Finally, regarding your analogy that the opposition is fighting an uphill battle against a brutal regime I say to you: Nelson Mandela had a tougher battle. He never gave up, and it is every Gambians responsibility to work towards a transparent government. We can start by acknowledging what the President did or is doing is wrong, but a direct result of the Parties that the majority of this list supports. The problem I have with most of the anti Jammeh group members is how they try to ignore that PPP now UDP party are the creators of our now campaign standards.

I might write about what I think the APRC government can do to utilize some of the Gambian talent scattered all over the world

Regards

Momodou Billo Krubally
