The Justice Scale: the State V. Fatou Jaw Manneh

http://www.gainako.com/

Hi all,

The State V. Fatou Jaw Manneh

Gainako thought it informative to hear about the stipulations in the Gambian constitution from a former Magistrate Lamin J. Darboe (LJD) who is very well acquanted with the case under discourse in view of preparing everyone for a verdict soon-to-be. It is to be noted, there was a lapse in communication between the author (LJD) and Gainako at some point, which led to the publication of the piece before its final submission. To that, we dearly apologize to Darboe himself and all the readers. Matters like that should as well be included to show full disclosure.

Many are curious about what is happening to this case. To others, the head and the tail of this case is not known, like can be put, "Poor Fatou!" Even the alleged coupists were long since served justice, whether favorable or not. Why is this one different? Why so long? Why Fatou? Why a woman? What does the law says? What will be an honest verdict? We don't have answers to all these questions. That is why it is important that our experts around can weigh in to enlighten us all. With that in mind, the feedback received thus far, is very encouraging. In three (3) days time -August 18th 2008, we will be discussing here the verdict by Magistrate B. Jawo. This is a matter hard to ignore.

On behalf of Gainako, we extend our appreciation to LJD who is also online with us here for providing the parameters of the law. Gainako will continually count on many like him.

Sincerely,
YJ

FULL DISCLOSURE OF MY KNOWLEDGE -SIS. FATOU JAW MANNEH

Perhaps, these lines below are not important, but I just thought for the records I can put them across.

-In the early days of Gainako, editor Baldeh (& entire GON) had wished Sis. Fatou was part of the team. We solicited her directly on her e-mail. After an honest discussion with her, she replied that she was too busy to handle such responsibility at the material time but will always send us contributions with time. Few months later, she was on her way to the Gambia only for an arrest by the notorious NIA that will prevent her from returning to the U.S so soon.

-Perhaps, from my part, it will be honest also to put here the numerous complements/rectifications/advise/mentorship I enjoyed from her while she was in the US.

-Fatou's family are my neighbors here in the U.S, among them, the eldest brother (Babucar Manneh), whose respect for the younger ones is immeasurable, especially myself.

-During the arrest of the NADD three (Halifa, OJ and Hamat), I was among the attendees of the march to the US state department and Gambian Embassy in DC. From the demontration, Sis Fatou has invited us (all demonstrators) to her apartment for a get-together. She was out with everyone in the horrible cold weathers, despite bad reddened sore eyes (still in memory) she had at the time.

-During the lauching of NADD in Atlanta, I remember well the speech she gave as well beacuse I was out there to grace the memorable occassion.

-I also did two interviews with her in the past, part of it, just an encouragement for writing passion. Matter of fact, I will post them here at some point as time permits.

-Of course, she was part of the STGDP committee which was hope for redemption. Let us say here, it is the struggle. (Matter of Frederick Douglas.)

-From horses mouth, I learnt she was very helpful to exiled journalists. In fact, she is kind-hearted to the extent she sent moral and financial support to others timely.

-Currently, she is the Assistant Secretary General to the GPU-USA.

-She is also a woman (mother) to at least two Children.

-It cannot be disputed as well, she is a great educator, who was eager for higher learning. Actually, she was enrolled in a Masters degree program prior to her visit to the Gambia.

-Fatou was also a staffer at the Daily Observer, alongside the great many products of the Keneth Y. Best's progressive activism.

Conclusion:

I am sure if anyone else was in her shoes today, Fatou, going what she demonstrated in the past, will fight tooth and nail to see justice done. She is the kind that trembled at every injustice. At this point, I truly wish her well. I wish all others well, including Chief E. manneh whereever he may be. Whatever Allah has willed, so be it. So be it! And so be it!

Any more....you (all of you out there) can also share the little you've known about her.

yj
