Bass,

Definitely, no ruse whatsoever from Kartong. My concern is our tradition of subsidising the cost of sugar for families back home during this holy month of Ramadan without helping the explosive growth of our population of diabetics. Infact how do we deal with that?

I do not know about these, well, famous Baddibunkas, and other folk from Basse. (One famous Baddibunka I know is Saul Gassama, who is a true Moslem through and through). All I know is that a great deal of "politically procured sugar" is usually consigned for distribution in Dippa Kunda during Ramadan. As you know, down here in the North, we will be fasting effectively not for more than ten hours. Its autumn and its cold and dark and without sunlight. Fasting will be the easiest thing even for folk from Basse, I suppose. Keep up the Good work down there.

Sidibeh

Subject: Ramadan delayed,Ramadan all the same!!

Folks,
Before wishing well and praying for the entire Gambia-L family on account of the advent of the Holy month of Ramadan,I would like to inform about the enormous amount of energy and effort expended by some folks in Basse,Badibou and Kartong these past few days to discourage others from looking for the new moon just so that Ramadan would be delayed for one more day.Its amazing the lenght to which some people are prepared to go for that extra afternoon bite one more time!!

Somebody has even intimated that he has seen a Badibunka who was seriously thinking of taking a French Leave to Mauritania, the only country in the Moslem world not to consider Fasting a pillar of Islam, just so he also wouldn't have to go through the "ordeal".Some folks would do practically anything when the comfort of their stomachs is threatened.

Delayed or not,its here nonetheless and I guess these folks must learn to live with it.Afterall, its only thirty days or less.Ramadan Kareem and peace and prosperity to everyone in this L-family.

Regards, Basss!
