Walahi, I shall have the last laugh, haha :) Is The Point, the late Deyda Hydara's paper part of the APRC propaganda machinery too?

NADD in Disarray as UDP Pulls Out

By Ebrima Sawaneh

Authoritative sources within the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD) have disclosed to The Point yesterday morning that the recently formed opposition alliance, NADD, is in complete disarray as the main opposition party, United Democratic Party (UDP) decided to pull out of the alliance.

According to a NADD insider who wishes to remain anonymous, this unexpected move was disclosed at a meeting of the executive members of NADD held on Saturday. “U.D.P. has decided to contest the by-election under their own party and not NADD, which automatically shows that they will not in fact be part and parcel of the NADD come the 2006 presidential elections.”

However, in the view of an executive member of NADD, this is a blessing in disguise since the rest of the people on the ground are wholly and solely behind NADD. “It is a similar scenario Sheriff Dibba took in 2001, but that did not prevent us from contesting. The UDP. leadership is committing political suicide. And remember here is a man I have never trusted,” another executive member fumed, adding that the PPP, NRP, NDAM and PDOIS are still behind NADD.

When contacted yesterday, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the UDP Secretary-General and party leader, declined to comment on the issue, referring this reporter to Mr. Halifa Sallah. Mr. Sallah indicated that a press conference would be held to inform the Gambian people about NADD’s position.

Meanwhile at the time of going to press a veteran politician, Assan Musa Camara, is said to be in consultation with the UDP leadership in an attempt to influence their stance. The outcome of such steps at mediation would be made public by Thursday.

Political analysts who spoke to The Point have meanwhile described the split as yet another opportunity for the ruling APRC to sweep both the September by-elections and the 2006 presidential elections.
