Conteh,

Admitting our mistakes can only be a way forward for us.
However, I think the following statement by Joe Sambou is very true:

"it seems to me that the opposition

> same angle that made it possible for these
> criminals to slide us to our
> current meltdown.
>

I think that we are still plagued by self interest with each party trying to
" be the one" to the point that even giving credit to another party or being
supportive of each other is seen as giving credit to that party. These
parties treat each other as enemies really, and this is proof positive that
the very essence of why one has a multi party system is completely lost to
most of them.
The fact that the different parties are supposed to create a balance with the
best interest of the nation and the people always taking a superior position
such that anything required to manitain that best interest be done,
,including cooperation between political parties seems ot be something
foreign to some of these people.

The clear conclusion is that most of these parties are just as power hungry
as the other endless parade of clowns we seem to have in Africa, and of
course most of them will tell you they are patriotic and have the best
interest of the nation at heart. Their actions tell another story every time
they are put to the test such as in the past elections in The Gambia.

How does one overcome such a spectacle?
These parties may pretend to be cooperating with each other when all the
while, each is looking for a way to sneak off and steal the show and become "
head honcho"
Power hungriness. That is our downfall, and those among us who demonstrate
the required selflessness and unconditional dedication that makes the
interest and welfare of the nation and the people top priority are not the
ones we choose to represent us.
It is as if we are programmed to self destruct.
