Comrade Jassey-Conteh

Thanks for sending us an informative piece on your
stance against the Alliance. Unfortunately I feel
disappointed with the way you have addressed this
issue.

First and foremost , may I wholeheartedly agree that
the events of July 30 and its aftermath gave birth to
massive human rights violations never heard of before
in The Gambia. According to statistics, around 1091
people were detained, of which a good proportion of
them were either members and sympathisers of the
National Convention Party. From my observation, the
likes of Sherrif Mustapha Dibba, Gibou Jagne, Latif
Sanyang, Kemenseng Jammeh, Saikou Makalo, Badara
Sidibeh and other influential members of the party
were detained in connection with the Coup attempt. It
is also true that some NCP supporters were detained
for no other reason other than their association with
an opposition party. However, I find it difficult to
believe that a political activist like your type could
continue to harbour such grievance against the PPP
regime. Not long ago, I read some of your postings on
the "L" in which you stated that the first Republican
Politicians have now buried their differences and are
peaking in unison to unseat Jammeh. If this is case,
how come you are making this alliance- a PPP vs NCP
business

Secondly, as I mentioned earlier, if Mr Sherriff
Mustapha Dibba can contemplate forming an alliance
with PPP in 1991, how about now? (You have not
answered this question which was initially posed to
you in my previous emails-I await your response)

Jassey-Conteh

if Sherriff Dibba and other members of his party could
contemplate forming an alliance with the PPP in 1991,
then there is the indication that they were ready to
forgive and forget as to what happened in 1981. By the
way, are you aware that S.M. Dibba once declared in a
rally held in Banjul that "THE NATIONAL CONVENTION
PARTY HAS FORGIVEN ALL THOSE WHO TRIED TO IMPLICATE
THEM WITH THE ATTEMPTED COUP OF JULY 1981". For your
information, this statement was made in 1992, during
the Campaign for the Presidential Elections. Bearing
in mind that this is what Honourable Sherriff
Mustapha Dibba had done in the name of peace and
political reconciliation, I find it difficult to
consume some of your reasons for not endorsing the
Alliance, Although, your stance may be personally,
however, there is the likelihood that other genuine
members of NCP may follow the same route.

Thirdly, you made reference to the case of the late Pa
Hali Jammeh, the 80 year old man who died in custody.
With due respect, you have not given the "L" a full
and frank disclosure as to the situation surrounding
Pa Hali Jammeh's detention and subsequent conviction.
For your information, Pa Hali was charged and
convicted of treason for his role in the coup attempt.
In fact, Pa Hali Jammeh, RI.P was jointly tried with
the likes of Sherrif Mustapha Dibba, Pap Cheyassin
Secka, Tumani Minteh, Musa Ceeasy and Lamin Danso.
When the judgment was delivered in this case, it was
established that Pa Hali Jammeh was found guilty of
several counts of treason and was sentenced to death.
However, it is true Pa Hali Jammeh died in custody,
but what we do not know is whether he died as a
result of maltreatrment at Mile II prison or natural
causes. Based on my analysis, this poor man was
rightly convicted for his involvement in the coup. He
was accused of co-ordinating the detention of hostages
held by the Rebel Forces. In addition, he was also
accused of playing a positive role at Radio Gambia,
Bakau. As a result, I am porepared to believe that Pa
Hali was unlafully detained, he died whilst on death
row.

Fourthly, Comrade Jassey-Conteh, you still have n't
answered my question " How would Dibba had reacted if
he was selected as Presidential Candidate for the
Alliance.? Would he have cried foul play ? certainly
not. What would have been your position if Darboe had
said NO to Dibba's nomination? Would you have still
endorse the Alliance? These are pertinent questions
which you should answer in order to maintain your
integrity.

Finally, I will conclude by saying that I do not share
the views of Moses Sarr, who has accused you as a
blind NCP supporter. I honestly think that such
statement was uncalled for since the entire membership
of the L know your supporting views on a united
opposition. What I am concerned about is you are
appear to be one of those NCP supporters that have not
acknowledge the October 2001 to NOT restore PPP but to
unseat Jammeh-through the ballot box.

Until then, this is my take on the whole issue. I
await your response.

Have a wonderful day.

Sanusi.
