The waves of arrests, insults and physical abuse of opposition supporters
and any person who is ready to speak the truth for that matter is definitely
uncalled for. While i blame Gambians who voted for Yahya Jammeh in the past
preidential elections for the reason best known to them, which i will say is
completely out of ignorance and discontent, coupled with selfishness, Yahya
Jammeh and his henchmen should also at the same time stop brutalizing
Gambian people for no just cause. Why insulting people, why assulting
people, and why arresting people? Because they do not share the same
ideologies with him. As Emmanuel Joof said in the Point published today,
"the ituation in the Gambia is sorrowful", because really there is no rule
of law considering the behaviour of the government and its security agents,
be it the police, the military, or the members of NIA who are publicly
known for their infamy. Yahya Jammeh should not treat Gambians inhumanly as
if he should be worshipped and feared as another god on earth. Even Allah,
the Almighty gives respect to a human being whether belivers or non-belivers
in Him. So why brutalising people because they do not believe in what he
says or does, and therefore not take side with him. Gambians have the civil
right to speak against anything they see as unjust and is not in the
interest of the country. I keep saying that Yahya Jammeh thinks he is better
than Gambians and can do whatever he wants and get away with it because
those who are defending the interest of the Gambia have no means to stop
him. But Yahya Jammeh must know that there were many rulers who thought they
had the same power to misrule and maltreat their country people, especially
those
who speak the truth, but they ended up destroying themselves, and their
country and their people still live. God is all seeing and He is watching.
It is hard though for Gambian people, but this time of suffering must sooner
or later come to an end in our one time peaceful country. Whether anybody
likes it or not, Yahya Jammeh is the president today, but whether anybody
also likes it or not Yahya Jammeh cannnot rule the Gambia forever. He knows
that for himself very well. For this reason Yahya Jammeh should try and act
with moderation when dealing with people and bear in mind that no condition
is permanent in this world, so are those people who think their lives in
this world and hereafter are in the hands of Yahya Jammeh. Arresting and
torturing people does no good for him and his cohorts. Some gambiaians tend
to forget that Allah, the Almighty is existing. But time will tell and truth
shall eventually PREVAIL.
