Your Votes Are More Powerful Than Guns - Darboe

The President flag bearer of the UDP, PPP AND GPP coalition, lawyer Ousainou
Darboe has reminded the Gambia’s voters that their votes, which he said
represent their voices and strength, were more powerful than all the guns
that Jammeh may possess.

“Do not fear anything and don’t succumb to any form of threats or
intimidation in whatever fomr” Darboe said, while addressing a political
meeting at the village of Bakinding in the Lower Nuimi constituency as part
of his political campaign for the October 18 presidential elections. The
Gambians, according to Darboe, are now fed up after seven years of mal
administration, unfulfilled promises, gunning down of innocent school
children, economic backwardness, arrest and detention of innocent people,
the frustration of farmers for the lack of market for groundnut, the
deprecation of the dalasi. In the wake of the above, he said, the future
entirely lies in your hands.

On his party’s programmes, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe noted that women will be
empowered by providing them with loans to do business and secure cold
storage for their vegetables. He also promised to provide a good investment
climate for both national and international investors to invest in the
country, a ready and available market for farmers groundnut and to revive to
the already ailing tourism sector.

He also promised to provide education and training for both urban and rural
youth for their self-reliance. Speaking earlier, Babou Cham, a man believed
to be in his 70’s, stated that the APRC regime, has not implemented any
single development project in the area so far. He infact threw a challenge
to anybody to prove him wrong.

All the development projects that the current government is claiming to have
instituted, the old man posited, is the work of the government of Sir Dawda,
Landing Jallow, Momodou SK Manneh and others. MC Cham in a rather moody tone
said that anybody who says that Sir Dawda and his PPP government did not do
anything in The Gambia must either be dreaming, misinforming or jealous or
worst of all preaching hypocrisy.

He therefore called on the people of Gambia to set aside the “No problem”
syndrome and say a big no to Jammeh’s rule come October 18. At Bakalarr
Medina, two former APRC supporters Seedu Darboe and Alieu Joof tendered
their voter’s cards to the UDP leader and announced they had defected from
the ruling party to the UDP. Seedu said, it was in his interest of The
Gambia that he left the APRC. He also vowed to bring more people for his new
party
