Return Assets Of Former PPP Officials Imam Leigh Urges Jammeh

The outspoken Imam of Kanifing East mosque Baba Leigh, has called on
President-elect Yahya Jammeh to return all confiscated properties belonging
to former officials of the deposed PPP administration.

Addressing hundreds of Muslim worshippers Friday the Imam said, in the
spirit of national reconciliation President-elect Jammeh should return
assets belonging to former ministers and top government officials in the
ousted Jawara administration.

The outspoken Imam told the congregation that most of the former government
officials are renting while some are staying with their in-laws. Imam Leigh
implored the Gambian leader to return the confiscated assets adding that
such an act would not reduce anything from President Jammeh but instead
would earn him more support and love.

Commenting on President Jammeh’s claim that he was advised by God to forgive
the opposition following his threat to deal with them, Imam said, “We wish
to thank God, since we have a leader who had such an advice from God. Since
God has advised him to forgive the opposition, let him forgive everybody.”

Imam Leigh added that President Jammeh’s recent call for reconciliation was
a step in the right direction. He called on the APRC leader to grant amnesty
to all Gambian both at home and abroad. The Kanifing East Imam also urged
the Gambian leader not to use his executive powers to fire civil servants
who are afraid of losing their jobs. Jammeh, the Imam went on should allow
the Public Service Commission to handle the issue of firing civil servants.
“A leader should be sympathetic and should learn to forgive,” Imam Leigh
told the congregation while praying for peace, stability and unity in The
Gambia.
