All, below is an article from the Observer on Jerod Mustaf and his ill
informed endorsement of Yaya Jammeh's re-election. We need to call this
brother and give him the schooling he lacks. I called him and left him a
message. Please take some time and call him and also write to him and tell
him what Gambians think of his comments. Let us bombard this fool.

Jerrod Mustaf endorses Jammeh
Written by Omar Bah
Thursday, 17 November 2005
Jerrod Mustaf, basketball great and former NBA star with the New York Knicks
and Phoenix Suns, has said that the Gambian President, Alhagi Dr Yahya AJJ
Jammeh is one of the smartest people he has ever met.

Mr Mustaf, who visted The Gambia last week, made these remarks in Maryland
recently during an interview with reporters. He said President Jammeh does
not only know Gambian and African History, but understands more of American
History than he had ever thought. He added that the rapid growth of The
Gambia is a testimony to why everybody he spoke to believe that President
Jammeh is moving the country in the right direction. “I endorse the
leadership of President Jammeh and urge The Gambian people to re-elect him
so as to continue the good work he already has begun,” he said.

Speaking on the President’s commitment to developing the game of basketball
in The Gambia, Mustaf said: “The expediency of my visit to The Gambia is a
testimony of how much he wants to improve the game in the country”. He went
on to say that he has observed that the president wants The Gambia to be the
best in Africa and that it will only be a matter of time.
On talent, Jerrod said he was pleasantly surprised with the level of talent
in The Gambia. He praised basketball technicians for doing their best with
what they have. He added that he is committed to supporting the President’s
initiative to developing the game. He intimated that the first level is
already beginning as he is putting together training manuals for coaches in
The Gambia. “We can train these coaches to teach the game just as in Europe
and the NBA,” he noted.

Speaking of the Gambian people, Jerrod Mustaf said they are by far the most
hospitable people he’s ever met. “I am thankful that my first visit to the
Diaspora was to The Gambia and I was truly embraced as family,” he said.
This visit, he said, has given him a different perspective of Africa.

“If I ever told people I was on a cell phone talking to the states some one
hundred miles from the capital, how many would believe me?” he asked. “I
truly can say that The Gambia has made a positive impact of Africa on me and
Patrick, and I do look forword to returning soon,” he concluded.

Jerrod Mustaf was in The Gambia as a special guest of His Excellency,
President Yahya Jammeh.
