NEWS
Jammeh Left Taiwan for Gambia With Huge Amount of Money, as he Attends
Taiwan's National Day
BY OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 10, 2005
President Yahya Jammeh accompanied by a high powered delegation left
Taiwan yesterday after he attended the Taiwanese independence
anniversary, The ALLGAMBIAN online newspaper has been reliably informed.

Jammeh whose departure was treated in low key affair is reported to be
seeking financial help from Taiwan, a nation which supported his
government over the years. Following Gambia's diplomatic break up with
mainland China, Jammeh took it upon himself to serve as Taiwan's lobbyist
at the United Nations, where he campaigned vigorously to to enable the
isolated country to be recognised by the World body. The UN still to
recognise Taiwan as a sovereign Nation, even though Taipei is engaged in
what many critics called 'cheque book diplomacy.

Poor countries such as The Gambia, are usually lured into diplomatic
prostitution to sell the image of Taiwan. Sources closed to Jammeh's
delegation says the President had received some financial help from Taiwan
during his independence anniversary visit. Sources say Jammeh was reported
to have complained about lack of money to run the country, as neighbouring
Senegal have shut their border with Gambia.

The President according to our sources was given a huge sum of money,
which sources say they cannot disclose at this hour. The Taiwanese
government our sources continued, have reaffirmed their commitment to
support Gambia during this trying times.

Jammeh was said to have been accompanied by some of Gambia's cultural
dancers, who reportedly impressed the Taiwanese. Despite Jammeh's complain
about lack of money to run the tiny West African country, some members of
his delegation questioned where he got the funds to pay for the travel
tickets of his entourage. The ALLGAMBIAN also gathered that the said
dancers were paid by Jammeh prior to their travel.
