All, a month or so ago, Ebrima Sillah introduced a brilliant idea for all
willing Gambians and friends of Gambia to support the Private Media in the
Gambia by contributing $1 per month towards a Media Fund.  Some of us took
him on his offer and pledged/contributed to jump start the effort.  We
encourage all that value to sacrifices of the private media in the Gambia to
support this fund for it is an investment in our future and our only voice
to the outside world.  Below, is a list of the folks that have pledged
and/or contributed thus far.  I would like to particularly encourage all
private media practitioners in the Gambia and those Gambian journalists
outside the Gambia to register your support by pledging and contributing to
this effort.  It is important that you show your support for this fund for
the private media and Gambians and friends of Gambia for a better and
brighter future.  Those in the Gambia can start a similar structure if it
has not already been done.  Currently, contributions are being collected by
me until we find a volunteer or make arrangements with those on the ground
to set up an account for us to deposit the contributions.  We believe that
collections should be in progress while work to finalize is under way.
