Thanks Mr. Jaiteh for forwarding this mail. The 'Point' must be
commented for this great job. The uncouth nature of this devil has
been laid bare in the most glaring fashion by no other person than
himself. Any time he mentions the name of Allah I cannot help but
wince. From all indications this man has not repented the cold blooded
murder of our school children, Koro Ceesay, Manneh, Barrow,etc..

This speech combined with the gibberish of Saja Taal are clear
indications that they have no intention of respecting the independence
of the IEC. It is as if they can say and do what you like (the whole
wild word) but we are not bulging as we came to be what we are not by
the ballot box but the barrel of the gun and broad day light rubbery of
election results (Ebou Jallow has previously said that Jammeh will
never accept defeat from the polls).

It has been a few days since we heard from Halifa. Most of us
commended him for the letter but emphasised that the struggle in the
Gambia must take a new turning. I hope he is now consulting with his
colleagues. I think the same goes for Darboe and Bah. May be Karamba
and Mballow can liaise with them. The current approach is simply not
working!

In the mean time lets keep the faith and pray for the mother land.

Asalamu alaikum

> What Jammeh Told APRC Youth Wing: A Verbatim Report
>
> Point News (Banjul)
> August 2, 2000
>
>
> Banjul - President Yahya Jammeh, speaking in Mandinka, at a recent meeting with members of the APRC youth wing at State House in Banjul, said he will continue to sack people, even on the day before elections.
>
> Claiming that his government was not created by elections, but brought to power by Allah "who also wills when it will come to an end," Jammeh said those who think they could disturb his party because elections are due are mistaken. They would be removed and replaced by patriotic Gambians, he said.
>
> He said the white people have been talking until they are tired, and in vain. Now they say he should not dismiss judges, "as if they are not civil servants. Are the judges not paid by our government," he asked. The judges, he added, signed a contract to do a specific job. If they fail to do so they would be dismissed, Jammeh declared, emphasising that it is a contract (appointment).
>
> So, he said, "if you think, whether you are a magistrate, a judge, a police.if you believe one ought not to dismiss you, you are fooling yourself. And those who talk and complain can do so until their mouths get torn, they can't do a thing about it."
>
> Jammeh said if there was no hypocrisy involved, then if someone is dismissed and they feel his/her work is good, why don't they employ that person. "Their complaints will not move me one inch, because I have faith in Allah; Allah will not put this nation to shame," he added.
>
> According to Jammeh, this country will progress, whether or not they like it. "I have said so since 1994, and the country is on the move."
>
> In fact, he went on, "they had to come back, and ask how we have been able to develop the country; where did we find the money to do so." Gambians, Jammeh said, must have faith in Allah. The revolution has not come for mere sloganeering. To shout Revolution! Revolution! he said in the end no one listens. "That is what happened to Sekou Toure. Every Friday, he goes on radio shouting 'Long Live the Revolution.' He did not do any work," according to Jammeh.
>
> "Our revolution has started now. All along we had laid the foundation. It was a trial period.we have to stand firm to see the house goes up."
>
> Talking about what his government has done for the youths of this country, Jammeh said those who know ought to commend his government; they ought to say "well done."
>
> "You people have wasted/spoilt a lot, let us be truthful to one another," he told his audience.
>
> He revealed that before his new (military) government did anything else, the first assistance rendered was to the youths. "In every place, on that day, in every area US Dollars (cash) were given out. Even today one does not know what happened to that money," he added.
>
> He said a Youth Development Enterprise was also created, in which a lot was invested. If things were done according to plan then by now Gambian youths would be managing many shops, he said.
>
> Jammeh said "not to just sit back and talk about the government and the revolution. Let us do something, make efforts." Swearing Bilai Walai Talai Jammeh claimed that "more than US$35 million has gone into construction (projects) from 1994 todate. That was what came into this country," he asserted. Out of this amount, he added, only 5% remained in the country, the rest having gone elsewhere.
>
> He said since projects are executed by non Gambians, and the government must initiate projects, if Gambians are not prepared to go into projects, and to toil and sweat; the government cannot wait for them since all it is interested in is that projects are being implemented.
>
> "Let us rise to the challenge.we have to learn to do things for ourselves, on our own," he exhorted.saying, among other things, that the government has done a lot, tried a lot, but Gambians must tighten their belts, to develop the country. "Let us love our country.Gambians let us love our nation, let us get up and work to develop the country.," Jammeh appealed.
>
> Talking about his recent distribution of tractors, provided to all the divisions in the country.Jammeh said some of those who say groundnuts were not purchased did not produce even a single nut. We all know, he said, what got the government involved in groundnut purchasing. The government has never been a buyer of groundnuts, he pointed out.
>
> However, he went on, as was being said (by detractors) "if the government was not able to purchase groundnuts, and you claim to be a member of the opposition; that you are a good citizen; you are not a 'JANKADING,' why are you not buying (farmers) nuts."
>
> "Buy the nuts! Then tomorrow," Jammeh said, "the people will have confidence in you; will say this government is not serious, this person is the sober one, let's vote for him. But to say Bakary cannot catch fish (is not a good fisherman), when you have never brought home even a crab! Then whoever listens to you is as dumb as you are," Jammeh declared.
>
> Continuing, he said, among other things, that whoever is a good person must stay away from groups of troublemakers. Jammeh said what they intend to do is that henceforth "whoever causes trouble or unrest; wherever this crisis occurs; whoever is found there - Jammeh swears Bilai Walai Talai - even chicken will not be seen alive there, and again swore to the Holy Quran.
>
> He warned those who want peace to stay away from FITNA KAFO - groups or gatherings prone to or engaged in civil unrest or trouble-making.
>
> Jammeh declared, "We will do it; and the white people will not be able to do a thing. about it; that no one can do a thing. about it.
>
> He went on to say that he will not sit back and allow anyone to put this country in flames. "It won't happen!" he declared.
>
> "We rose on that day of July 22 to die, and even today our position remains the same." He added that he does not fear any human being, "whether black, white or whatever." This country, he said, he wants to safeguard, and whoever wants to set it alight, Jammeh said, "will be burnt .and buried 100 metres deep."
