Katim, a short note.  Unfortunately, my computer is down so I have to resort
to using my computer at work to respond to issues on the L.  In a nutshell,
this means my responses are harried and not well thought out.  But I feel
obligated to respond regardless.

Having a written historical account of what Gambia was like in the earlier
days is very important.  I have wondered myself what the Banjul of my
forefathers was like. In my younger days my dad narrated to me wonderful
tales of what it was like growing up back home in the 40s and 50s.  It is
still difficult to get a good mental picture of what this was like without a
written account.  The lack of written historical accounts is perhaps due to
the fact that we have relied more on oral history  as opposed to a written
one.  But this is also one of our strengths.  There are many older people who
have very active memories and are capable of giving a very detailed
perspective of what it was like in those days.  If someone was dedicated
enough to glean this information from such people, we could have a detailed
history and thus a better mental picture of what things were like.
