Thanks for forwarding the link to the English version of this article, though
it is not as detailed as the Norwegian one. I think all credit here is due to
Inger Anne Olsen, a true friend of The Gambia for following up this case and
tipping off the relevant authorities.

I am particularly saddened by the family's reaction towards the cousin,
freezing him out because he had early suspicions about the Norwegian and tried
to intervene to prevent the boy being further molested. To think that they put
financial gain above the mental well being of the boy says a lot about the
ongoing decay in the country's moral fabric.

It is certain that no amount of therapy can restore the damage done to the boy
and the question that hauts one is: how many more victims are there? Should
the state not prosecute the parents who knowingly and willingly let their
child be abused becuase of financial gain? This is a trend that must be nipped
in the bud.
