The Gambia is definitely going through hard times at the moment. Like all
other civilized economies in the world, our strength as people will be
measured by how well we hold up to our values and work together to bring
our country out of the slump. Unlike most people on this list, I do not
advocate a violence path, for violence accomplishes nothing. The situation
in our neighbouring countries that went along the path of violence as a
solution will prove my point. Some people call on unity among the
opposition as a way out. If anything, the opposition in the Gambia is also
seriously failing us. Corruption, mismanagement, and nepotism among the
opposition are among the elements that continue to hold them down. The
politicia
ns in our nation seem to be guided more by selfishness and
egocentrism than by the love for their country. Before going any futher I
must clarify one point that I am neutral as far as Gambian politics is
concern. However, I speak out of great love for my country which has bred
me to become what I am today.

Again, I challenge all the good hearted Gambians on this list to come up
with ideas that we could debate on as a pretext to helping our country out
of the economic downturn. Anything but violence will be welcomed.

Have a good day everybody - Abdoulie A. Jallow
