Hi,
this will have to be long and I have decided to reply publicly on Gambia L since more people might be interested.
Background: Since we came to The Gambia in 1995 Dumo has mostly been a keen cilvilian. He never approved of APRC as a party or coup d'état as a method of changes. He refused to join APRC but he also refused to join for example NRP when he was approached by Hamat Bah before the election -96. He is still a MOJA at heart, and even went to register it before the -96 election. But MOJA is scattered and many members have defected to other parties (Sajo, Buba Senghore, David Jones etc) Many people approached Dumo to stand as an independent candidate (for example to KMC) but Dumo refuses to "stick out his neck" without the support of a party and his ideological party is still the sleeping MOJA. Hence no party politics at all for Dumo since his return to The Gambia. But he has participated as a concerned citizen: Ideas and proposals on treeplanting to prevent coastal erosion, a big proposal on youth development etc.

On the roadmatter: Since in Sweden Dumo lost confidence in Sajo and Jainaba because of their opportunistic behavior. But when he understood that the road project was on he called Sajo and asked for an opportunity to express his views because he believed that he had a responsibility as a citizen. Sajo agreed to meet him.

On me seeing Sajo: When Dumo was arrested in June the state for three weeks refused to admit that he was detained and I tried different ways to find out. I had met Sajo and Jainaba together with Dumo during their first week in Sweden in 1985 and during their first years in Sweden we had quite a lot of contact so upon Sajos return from Ghana I called him and asked what he knew about the whole thing. He said he was not aware but whould try to find out. He called me up after a while and wanted me to meet him. Finally it was agreed that he should pick me up and we went to his house where I was invited for lunch. He had no information about Dumo's case but he urged me to cooperate with the police to try to help Dumo with whatever alibies and facts I could have. From the beginning until now I have never been approached for any questioning. Our house has never been searched. Our working place - BOKA LOHO - has never been searched. Dumo's mothers house has never been searched. I have no doubts that if the NIA ever believed in their own accusation they would not have hesitated to thoroughly exhaust all possibilities to find the weapons or other materials necessary to stage an overthrough or kill a president - crimes of which Dumo is said to be suspected.
I concluded my visit to Sajo by asking him how he, with his ideological background could continue to participate in a government that so neglects the constitution of the country and why he did not protest. He replied that the only way to protest would be to resign which he would not do because he belived that the power that he was enjoying as a minister could be of benefit for the country.
In his usual way he also assured me that he would of course like to help me, "call me any time" etc. I never contacted him again. In my opinion Sajo lacks spine, integrity and conscience. I do not want to enter into polemics with his wife on this matter, since she has always had a tendency to leave the issue and get lost in abuses.
Thanks for your interest,
Annika

PS. For your information I can also clarify that Ous Manjang is one of the few former MOJA-people who has reacted in this case, by writing and protesting.
PPS. Dumo et al went to court again on Oct 3rd, for the first time since March 12th. Nothing has improved. Still the only thing debated is the mode of trial and the whole thing is adjourned again until November 27th.
Annika

> Dampha, I have said this before and i'll say it again: Sarjo Jallow DOES NOT walk on water! Moses was given that gift, and the only other man in Africa Allah bestowed the same gift on was Serign Bamba. Sarjo Jallow is just any ordinary man. If he posses anything else, maybe one can say he is a survivor. Out of five children he was the only one who overcame infant mortality and is living. With the superstition/mysticism connected with twins and their sibling(Sarjo), My uncle is always quick to point out: "I don't see anything". So, Mr Donkey Kong(Dampha), let me remind you, my uncle alone cannot make Gambia's troubles disappear.
> Unlike you, Sarjo Jallow is not a man of many words. What concrete evidence do you have that he condoned any atrocoties inflicted on anybody?
> ON DUMO When he was Minister of communication and his department was planning on some road development,Uncle Dumo had some ideas on the project. Sarjo Jallow invited Dumo Sarho to come and present his ideas at their department. Uncle Dumo went, did his presentation and he was listened to. If Dumo was like you, i am sure he would not have shared his views. He would simply say, since i am against the APRC let hell break loose!
> When Dumo Sarho was arrested, Sarjo was in Ghana on an offical trip. The man was not even in the country. Uncle Dumo's wife, Anica Renberry, went to visit my uncle. Let the lady tell you what expired and how she was treated by Sarjo Jallow. Yaya Jammeh or whoever was in command sent security forces to my uncle, and they were enquiring to the level of comndemning the Lady's visit. You know what Sarjo Jallow responded when he was summoned. He said and i quote: Dumo Sarho is not just anybody. This guy is not only my comrade, but MY BROTHER. I cannot run away from my past. Whether that contributed to him been transfered to Youths & Sports or not, only time will tell.
