Assalaamu alaikum brother Samba

Alhamdulillah and jazzakallahu khaira for this excellent tribute to the role
of Muslim women as exemplified by the best amongst them, Umma haatul
mu'mineen (mothers of the believers), Khadijja and Aisha (radhialahu anhum).

I must hasten to add to your list of great Gambian Muslim sisters that of
two who have just released a translation of the Qur'aan on tape (Aja Mai
Savage and sister Jaabie). You can find their story on yesterday's issue of
GRTS with the launching ceremony graced by SOS Kabba Bajo at Atlantic Hotel.
Alhamdulillah. I guess we can say the first work of this nature in our
subregion is by women. MashaAllah.

I will also pay tribute to my favourite female preacher on Radio Dunya of
Dakar, Sohna Mam Jarra. Allahu Akbarr, I used to always follow her programs
on Wednesdays on Radio Dunya. She has a call-in program; and her knowledge
is quite admirable.

Her namesake also, Maam Jarra Buso (rahmatullahi alayhaa), the mother of our
SeneGambian Imaam and luminary, Sheickh Serigne Maam Bamba Touba
(rahmatullahi alayhi) was an example of how a righteous woman can nurture a
righteous offspring. Lastly, I must say it is impossible to talk about G-L
righteous sisters without making mention of our sister who came out with
another 'first' that has not been initiated before by any Gambian. That is
Sister Awa Sey, the initiator of the already vibrant Gambian Muslims email
group. May Allah shower her with blessings.

May Allah increase the likes of these righteous Muslim women in our
subregion. May Allah accept our fasting and prayers in this Ramadhaan.
Allahumma salli wasallim alaNabiyyina Muhammad. Wasalaam.

Modou Mbye
