I am of the opinion that, more than the release, STGDP can do more by making presence at the said detention centre and filing appeals on behalf of Jarju at the immigration court. I am not sure if STGDP has already initiated this kind of move, but it may be helpful.

Our prayers for Bakary's immediate release, even though prayer is sometimes too weak a resistance or even a battle winner.

Alieu

FOLLOWING THE DETENTION OF NADD SEATTLE LOCAL COORDINATOR, STGDP REACTS
BY AN EDITOR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 23, 2005
Save The Gambia Democracy Project, is sympathising with the detained NADD
local coordinator in Seattle, Bakary Jarju, who is currently held by the
US Immigration officials. Jarju, who is held at the Tacoma detention
centre was said to have been on the US Immigration deportation list. His
asylum case was denied by the Immigration court, which ordered for his
removal from this country.

His detention was greeted with shock by Gambians in Seattle and his
colleague within the Save The Gambia Democracy Project. In a terse and
brief statement, STGDP Executive Members said Jarju's current predicament
"are the kind of issues Africans and immigrants in general face abroad."
Below is the unedited press release sent to The ALLGAMBIAN online
Newspaper by the STGDP Executive. Please read on......

Bakary Jarju, based in Seattle, is an active member of Save The Gambia
Democracy Project. His recent problems with the immigration is purely a
personal one and has nothing to do with STGDP as an organization. However
we empathize with him since the majority of STGDP members are immigrants.
These are the kind of issues Africans and immigrants in general face
abroad. We join his family in prayers to resolve his problems.

STGDP EXECUTIVE
