Elakeh (Modou)
You don't have to imagine that. Its a fact that the Ceasays struggle with
their chicken wings and legs during daytime in Ramadan is as old as the
history of Islam in West Africa itself. There was nothing they didnt do in
their desperate attempts to convince the North african Arabs who brought
Islam to our region that they really had to have a waiver on chicken wings
if they were to register as permanent members of their religion. Similar
desperate efforts were made by the Fulas also to exempt milk (Cherehk Mew)
from the blanket embargo on liquid and solid foods. They strenously argued
that their health would be severely impaired and they would not be able to
look after their cows during daytime. That is hilariously amusing because the
whole notion of fasting was to test just that: who will or won't function
after giving up ones favorite solid and liquid foods. As for our friends in
Badibou (the Mankanasoo People),their creativity and stealth in evading the
blanket embargo on the comsumption of Manankasoo related foods has now
become the suff of legend in Gambian folklore.

RAMADAN KAREEM to Gambia and the Gambia-L Family.

Regards,Basss.
