Uncle Mustapha,
With due respect indeed, I have no doubt whatsoever that you have every
right to stand by your words. Even if you were a supporter of the APRC, I
would not have a quarrel with you over that in itself. Our constitution to
which we all subscribe and adhere to in principle, envisages a multiparty
political cultural environment. Oh no! uncle, I am not the one who will have
a quarrel with you even if you support the APRC. But as my compatriot and
kinsman, I will tell you that the APRC is not worthy of providing the
political leadership of the Gambia because, among other things, it has
presided over too much shedding of innocent blood and overwhelming socio
economic dislocation.
With regard my postings you have responded to, I was merely using the issue
of Silla Bai's dismissal to make broader observations on some cultural
traits which I strongly feel are anti-development. I strongly feel that if
we are effectively abled to reinforce the good and positive in public life
and equally punish the bad /evil and corruption, there would not have been
so much mistrust and seeming jealousies that others have already alluded to.
I have consistently argue that I do not hate Yaya and co., they are indeed
brothers and compatriots. Thus I do not hate them, if anything, I feel sorry
for them for doing badly things they should have been doing well. I do not
concentrate on their persons in my criticisms of them, it is their policies
and leadership style that I disagree with, and the thrush of my criticisms
will be directed at these, untill they changed or are changed.
Uncle, I do not even want to imply, much more say, that people started
garnering " ill-gotten gains"during the Jammeh regime.I most respectfully
urge you to go back to my first response to this topic and read the
paragraph which has this sentence: Our inability in both the past and
present to effectively discriminate between the good and evil has cost us
dearly..... I then went on to indicate that unless we evolve a better
culture for promoting good and discouraging evil, there can be very little
hope in our future as a nation.
finally, I insist that my anti-APRC stance is not personal. Instead it is
solidly based on principles and issues.
Omar Joof.
