  Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh, has recently purchased arms from an undisclosed location amounting to D4.3Millions, amidst reports that he is preparing to arm his security ahead of the country's 2006 polls, which most observers say will not be violence free, highly placed state house sources confirmed to this paper today.

  Our unimpeachable sources in the heart of the Jammeh government hinted that  the said arms and ammunition had find its way in the tiny West African country and are currently stationed in Kanilai, the President's home village.

  Military sources say the weapons were modern combat weaponry and are capable of doing great destruction in a poor country like The Gambia. Prior to the reportage of this story, this paper was informed that some men of The Gambia National Army were trained on  how to operate such arms, which appeared new to many Gambian soldiers.  "Soldiers from Fajara, Yundum, Kudang and Basse barracks respectively were reportedly trained on the management and handling of such deadly weapons."said our sources.

  This paper will furnish its readers with more information about  parties who helped Jammeh to secure such arms, which are subject of discussion in the Gambian military rank and file today. "The following countries are on our radar of investigations as far as the sale of arms is concerned, namely Hungary,Bulgaria,Libya,Georgia(Eastern Europe)."said our investigative reporter handling the said story.

  Our sources say the arms were exported  into the country in a special container.Ports and Customs agents, hinted that the said shipment was not inspected on arrival, as it was quickly removed from the Banjul sea Ports and whisked away by some government and state house officials.

   In another developments , this paper had  been reliably informed  about funds paid to one lobbyist Richard Hines by The Gambian leader amounting to $300,000.00. The said contract documents signed by Gambia's ambassador to the United  States Dudu Bammy Jagne is well circulated within and outside The Gambia. This paper gathered that the said contract between Jammeh and Hines will run for one year and was subject to renewal. The aim and objectives of such a contract according to our sources  was to sell the battered image of The Gambia to the outside world-with the sole aim of attracting American and European investors into the impoverished West African country.

  Our sources went on to reveal that Hines had  hired Abu Kalley, a Gambian residing in the US to work hand in hand with him  to realise such an advertorial project.  Sources say Kalley was assigned with the responsibility of handling "the economic sector designed as African Affairs or Investment  Department or whatever."

  According to state house and insiders at the Gambian embassy in  Washington DC, Kalley is being paid $60,000.00 by Mr.Hines to jointly run the said advertorial business, which they signed with The Gambian government.  This paper will report more on the said story in days to come, as we are privy of other  scandalous revelations.
