Infact the Gendarmes were given blank barrels. According to one of my
friends who was then in the gendarme, some of the officers complained why
they were given only guns without bullets. And the answer to that from one
of the senior officers is , they are going for crowd control and not to a
battle field. I was a student at Saints then and I also participated fully
in that demonstration. Only I can remember is we were beaten with gun butts
and belts and even blows were exchanged. I still have my scars. NO BULLET
WAS FIRED.
