On the 5th of October, Momodou Camara wrote the following in response to
Madiba Saidy's motion to suspend Ms. Hasanatou Barry for her vulgar article
about Hamjatta and his family:

"Madiba, List Managers have already taken the decision and removed the
address from the person list".

If Madiba was the first to move this motion, which seems to be the case,
then Momodou Camara's response indicates that action was already taken
before anybody formally complained.

That same day (5th October) Momodou Camara posted the following:

"Subject: New measures!!

Dear Gambia-L Members, This is to remind all that Gambia-l was established
to help Gambians and friends of the Gambia to discuss Gambia related issues
in a respectable and dignified manner. Despite several personal and public
calls certain members (a very small minority) of Gambia-l continue use the
list as a forum for graphic language, pornography and indecent language on
each other's family. As a result the Management regrets to announce the
following new regulations:

1. Members engaged in personal attacks and insults will be removed without
warning. 2. Management has suspended effective immediately all new requests
for subscription until after October 20, 2001. 2. New applicants for
subscription (after Oct 20) would be required to provide sponsors. Sponsor
must be someone who is already on the list and credible using his/her name.

Thank you.

For Gambia-L Management Momodou camara"

On the 10th October (5 days after the new measures were announced) Yusupha
wrote:

"SUBJECT: ON FJC's Early Pre-Dawn Activities.

To digress for a minute, I could not help but notice that your rampage on
the L started around 2 AM and did not end till close to 5 AM Banjul time.
Therefore, I could not help but wonder what in God's name any reputable
woman with a life was doing up so late. I wonder what poor Mr. Ceesay was
doing there. I mean with all due respect, you should have been providing the
man with a bit of warmth and support at that time of the night. But the poor
fella was probably holding his inflamed nuts wishing you would come to bed
soon.

But, no, FJC was more interested in working extra time for the APRC instead
of sharing in and satisfying the wants of her husband. Or will you come up
wi th the excuse that you were up early for prayers and as such, involved in
a bit of pre-"Fajar' activity,

Woman, the depths you sink to....!"

The following day Malanding wrote "As of Thursday both [log in to unmask] and
[log in to unmask] are set to recieve mail only. That means that they can
receive g-l mail but cannot send mail to the list".

Whereas the de-listing of Ms. Hasanatou Barry, despite her public apoplogy
within 24 hrs, and Hamjatta's declaration that he could have dealt with her
did not seem to matter to many, Yusupha's suspension seems to matter a lot.
There is no doubt in my mind that FJC's crime here seems to be the least
considering the fact that she indirectly called L-ers liars which some took
offence to. She also did not appologise for her generalization when
challenged by some demanding an appology.

It would be recalled also that when, on the 2nd October, Mr. William Njie
appealed for decency on the L in an article titled "Fellow Gambians", Yus
wrote no less than 4 postings against his appeal. What does this say?

Despite the fact that Yus has made many useful contributions, on many varied
subjects of interest on the L, his recent post concerning FJC is absolutely
vulgar and disgusting and there is no way round that fact. That being the
case how come then some people are trying to get the list managers to
reverse their decision in the case of Yus and not the others. Some are even
trying to pull the wool over our eyes and intepreting his post differently.
Come on guys, you know better than that. As far as I am concerned they all
deserve to be out in the cold until when new applications for subscriptions
are being processed.

Now that the list managers have used their prerogative to re-instate Yus,
against common sence, how about Ms. Hasanatou Barry and FJC? After all what
is good for the goose should be good for the gander.

Have a good day, Gassa.
