Sister Jabou , I heard Ousainu Darboe last week on focus on Africa not only
denying these allegations but also explaining how he had to sacrifice his
Families Landed properties to pay his tax arrears .I have my doubts about
these allegations and the timing since knowing Waa in Gambian politics in
the late 70's he his person not to be trusted . From somewhere to Assistant
Commissioner ,then NCP and all that he said about Sir Dawda then back to PPP
got appointed and lastly contested as an Independent Candidate .I hope the
real truth come sooner than later .

Well, you asked all the pertinent questions to ask Absjorn Nordam.
First if some people within the UDP or even outsiders are encouraging Waa
Juwara to form a new party or take over the leadership of the party, what a
distasteful way to do it by crucifying Ousainou Darboe in public. It
certainly tells us about the ethics of the UDP.
If indeed all the funds for the party were used to pay Ousainou's tax debt
twice, in the amounts mentioned,
1. I also wondered what kind of income he had to amass such huge taxes and
for how many years he owed these taxes?
2.Also, if he indeed earned such an income but failed to pay his taxes, what
kind of a president would he have made for Gambia? Why is it that this
information is just now coming out after the UDP led Gambians to believe
that
they did not participate in the national assembly elections because they
were
boycotting it in protest?
Transperancy is a good thing, but this one seems to be agenda driven against
theor own, and turns one's stomach.
3. Waa Juwara does not seem to be an outsider in the UDP, so he and others
in
the party must have known about and participated in the decision to use the
party funds to pay Darboes' unpaid taxes, especially if it happened not one,
but twice.
4.Why didn't Waa Juwara speak out about this before the elections or the
first time it happened if he was so against as he seems to imply? His excuse
that it was done behind his back does not hold water.
5.Why did the entire party mislead the Gambian people and forge ahead to
present Darboe as a candidate for President when he does not seem to be able
to take care of his own finances, and yet was to be the one to run the
finances of our country if he were elected?
One wonders if they were keeping this secret, then what would ensue if they
were to be elected to Power?
It seems that a decison was made to make Ousainou the fall guy, using
reasons
that the party leaders had a hand in. It seems to me that if this party was
driven by ethics and a desire for transparency as Waa Juwara is trying to
imply by insisting that Darboe resign due to these allegation, they would
have met amongst themselves the first time they were asked to consider using
the party funds to bail Darboe out of his tax problem, and chosen another
party leader. This is what would have been done if they were sincere,
instead
of coming up with a haphazard strategy to boot Darboe out in this manner.
This whole affair is reminiscent of the distasteful UDP methods used during
the formation of the "alliance" prior to the elections, and they seem to
engage in very poor strategy that does them more harm than good and lessons
their credibility before the Gambian people. It is time for the UDP to learn
from their mistakes that an agenda driven by anything other than a genuine
sincerity to serve all Gambians
will not stand the test of time.
