Juwara's statement, "Lawyer Darboe who had led the party to a disaster as the party is presently experiencing a no-sense-of-direction situation with no programme, no mission and no clear cut political agenda." is yet the best explanation of UDP's current state in Gambian politics. The UDP never had an agenda from the beginning, and like anything in this life; one has to have an agenda, a sense of direction to attain a goal. As a smart politician, Juwara know that UDP have failed the people, and I will not be surprise if he is setting the stage for his own party. Juwara and time will tell that Gambia’s problem is more that Jammeh.

Juwara urges Darboe to resign as party leader
or else ... predicts doom for the UDP

The propaganda secretary of the main opposition United Democratic Party, Lamin Waa Juwara, has called on the party leader, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, to resign as leader of the party.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer yesterday at his Brikama residence, Mr Juwara said ten months after the Presidential elections, and the party's subsequent boycott of the National Assembly elections, Darboe has failed to tell the party supporters the reasons behind all their actions.
He further said Darboe has also failed to make an issue out of all the blunders committed by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
"I wonder how Darboe could register disappointment over the non-registered voters who voted instead of protesting," he said.
Mr Juwara also questioned Lawyer Darboe made a prearranged telephone call to President Jammeh without consulting him and other senior members of the party.
He said the UDP is a strong party that should not be owned by an individual or a group of individuals.
He said though Lawyer Darboe may be a good lawyer he may not make a good politician.
Mr Juwara said people are of the view that there is a major leadership crisis within the party which is wrong. He emphasised that what they had instead was Lawyer Darboe who had led the party to a disaster as the party is presently experiencing a no-sense-of-direction situation with no programme, no mission and no clear cut political agenda.

The party propaganda secretary further said the UDP stood for democracy and the term limit was very clear. "Even in the National Consultative Committee report on term limits, we called for two five- year terms and we have criticised Jammeh's administration for failing to accept the NCC report, why then should Darboe stay after trying twice," he said.
He said Darboe should resign now or he would lead the UDP to great doom. When asked whether other members of the UDP executive share his opinion, he said "it is either Darboe or the UDP. It is not the executive that is paramount, rather it is the general membership and they shared these views. They felt betrayed".

Mr Juwara said Darboe had not been able to take on the APRC. He said Darboe defied common sense when he congratulated Jammeh who dismissed Magistrate Borry Touray for refusing to remand Darboe and his team after the Basse incident.
Mr Juwara said the UDP had not been able to pursue the party demands in the boycott report it sent to the IEC, under the leadership of Darboe.
Mr Juwara said he could not understand why Darboe congratulated President Jammeh, when President Jammeh failed to honour the tragic death of UDP National Assembly Members (Buba Samura and Abdou Karamba Kassama) in an accident in January 2001.

Mr Juwara said the UDP had no single National Assembly member and councillor because Darboe has said that President Jammeh won the Presidential election.
Mr Juwara said since Darboe congratulated Jammeh without consulting the party leadership, Darboe still refused to apologise to his supporters at home and abroad which would have been the only way to contain the crisis of confidence in him (Darboe).
"The most honourable thing for him (Darboe) to do now is to resign. If there is a congress, he would not go unchallenged."
When asked whether he intended leading the party, he replied "that will come later... what we are concern with now is to correct these contradictions".
