APRC militants clash with UDP convoy

Ebo Town was the scene of a violent clash between a small group of APRC
militants and a UDP convoy heading for a meeting at the town Friday.
According tou our reporter the UDP convoy was suddenly intercepted and
attacked by a group of APRC militants who appeared from nowhere.Brandishing
APRC party flags the ruling party supporters blocked the convoy, forcing
them to a stop. Soon a protracted missile war ensued between the two groups
who were not prepared to give way. However, other UDP supporters jumped down
from their vehicles to fight back. The APRC supporters who were the smaller
of the two groups fled swiftly like a gazelle and took refuge in the
compound, of someone described as a staunch APRC sympathiser.

Spoiling for action the UDP boys decided to storm the compound but were
subsequently restrained by Omar Jallow (O.J) the leader of the convoy who
told his supporters to remain calm. He exulted them saying he was not
interested in such confrontation. Nevertheless, it was confirmed that the
brief brush caused one causality in the name of Buba Mballow of Manjai
Kunda. A flying missile had hit him in the head and he was immediately
rushed to a pharmacy for medical attention. Dodou Sanneh a UDP youth leader
warned the APRC supporters to be mindful."If they don't stop this the
consequence will be very dangerous", he warned.

Juana Sarr a member of the party's women's wing in Ebo Town urged party
supporters to distance themselves from any problems that could ignite cross
party confrontation. She advised them to ignore every insult. In the same
vein, Sarjo Singhateh the UDP Chairman in Ebo Town remarked that although
they were not there to cause trouble anybody who to provoke them should
expect them (UDP) to defend themselves. However, the meeting was
subsequently interrupted when a police van with officers from the Tallinding
Police Station appeared on the scene.
