The article http://www.thepoint.gm/National%20Stories933.htm by The Point 
Newspaper has some errors and I want to make a correction that GESO (Gambia 
Education Support Organization) is not “a Danish Refugee Organisation” as the 
article states. The donation to SIMMA is from GESO-Denmark.

The Gambia Education Support Organization, GESO is a not-for-profit, non-
partisan organization dedicated to supporting education in the Gambia. GESO was 
established in 1998 after some G-L members voiced out the need to set up an 
organization to support education in the Gambia. GESO's goal is to provide 
intellectual, financial, moral and material support to individuals and 
organizations in education in the Gambia. To the effect GESO has organized 
itself into Chapters in N. America, UK, Denmark and Gambia. Some of the 
chapters have organized collection and transportation of used computers to the 
Gambia. Others organized fundraisers to support students in the Gambia.

Although some GESO chapters are currently inactive, GESO-Denmark still has some 
dedicated members who continue to pay monthly dues in order to continue the 
scholarship program.

GESO Donates Over D20,000 to Simma Institute

GESO, a Danish Refugee Organisation, has donated 5,000 Danish Kroner (about 
D23,500) to Simma Training Vocational Training Centre in Latrikunda Sabiji, 
towards the development of the institution.

Speaking recently at the presentation ceremony held at the Centre, Asbsord 
Nordem (Asbjørn Nordam), the representative of GESO, said her (his) 
organaisation was impressed by the invaluable service Simma is rendering to the 
youth and people of The Gambia, especially to those in the community where the 
centre is situated. 

He assured Simma’s authorities of GESO’s willingness to render more assistance 
to the centre. 

“We are glad to help Simma all the time. Our motive is to help the needy when 
the need arises,” he said, adding that GESO is committed to serving the people 
and developing their talents for their personal and national benefits.

Receiving the donation, the Director of Simma, Mr Ousman Kally Jobarteh, 
thanked GESO for the “timely” donation.

“We will make good use of the money to develop Simma Vocational Training 
Centre,” he said. 

The donation would contribute stupendously in alleviating some of the problems 
of the institution, he added.
