Gambia-l,

We have witnessed interesting times on Gambia-L the past few months. I have
been a member since 1996 but I have never seen gambia-L like the way it has
been lately. It has been mainly dominated by the election, where we've seen
some really interesting and educative postings to personal attacks.
Tensions have been high sometimes and some members have been delisted from
the L. I guess that's 'normal' when people share different opinions.

Now the elections are over. Gambians have made their choice and I join
those who already have spoken, to urge people on the L to respect that and
to move on. I must commend people that have congratulated Yaya Jammeh and
his people on their victory, despite having shown here that they really
supported the opposition. It's very courageous of you guys. You have argued
very strongly here why people should vote for the opposition and yet you
accepted defeat graciously when it came. I hope others would do the same
thing. I hope APRC supporters would also respect that and not try to taunt
these people which would just lead to another chaotic situation on the L.

I commend Gambians for the big turn out and for the way they have handled
the situation. I also join others, in congratulating the winning party. I
hope that they would respect the voices of Gambians and work hard to keep
the promises they've made for the betterment of our country. To the
opposition I say, congratulation for running a good race and for
courageously accepting defeat.

I hope to see the old Gambia-L back.

Isatou
