Gambian President Blasts US for Deteriorating Genocide in Iraq

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Gambian President al-Haji Yahya Jammeh
expressed regret over catastrophic developments in Iraq, and criticized
the United States for practicing wrong policies which have deteriorated
genocide in that country.

According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry's Information
and Press Bureau, Jammeh made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here on Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides explored ways to deepen mutual ties and
exchanged views about regional and international issues.

Jammeh further pointed to his constructive meetings with Iranian
officials, including President Ahmadinejad, and pointed out that Iran
enjoys a wide variety of potentials which could also serve the progress of
the African continent.

He also stated that the two countries can underpin new foundations in
their relations through continued exchange of views.

Elsewhere, the Gambian president described Islam's role in human life as
vital, and expressed the hope that Muslims could pave the way for the
materialization of the exalted goals of Islam, including justice and
welfare, through following religious injunctions and teachings.

Pointing to the results of the Palestinian elections he stressed the need
for international respect for the election results, and reminded that the
Hamas government is a product of a democratic process.

Referring to the Iraqi issue, Jammeh expressed regret over the
developments in Iraq, and criticized the US policies for deteriorating
genocide in that country.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki described the
two countries' relations as positive, and said that mutual ties have been
moving on a constructive trend.

He also noted that following the recent meetings between the two
presidents in Banjul- on the sidelines of the African Union Summit-
Iran-Gambia cooperation has produced increasingly progressive results.

Mottaki also mentioned that the meetings between the two countries'
Foreign, Power and Agriculture ministers as well as the two states'
electricity projects have provided proper mechanisms for the endorsement
of mutual cooperation agreements.

He further pointed out that Tehran-Banjul scientific and academic
cooperation can pave the ground for the transfer of Iran's educational
experiences to Africa and eventually gift scientific promotion to that
continent.

Elsewhere, the top diplomat referred to the current developments in Iraq,
and stressed that the United States' wrong policies and approaches in that
country have paved the way for the increasing failures of Washington,
reminding that transfer of security affairs and Iraq's sovereignty to the
people of that country is the only way for the US to get rid of the Iraq
question.

In another part of his statement, he pointed to the blatant violation of
Muslims' rights in the US and Europe, and stated that sacrilege of
Muslims' and other religious minorities' values, existence of secret jails
and promotion of inhuman and illegal norms and criteria have caused
growing concern in the United States and Europe.

The Iranian foreign minister also welcomed opening of diplomatic centers
in the two countries, and expressed the hope that the measure could pave
an appropriate ground for the development of mutual ties.
