Mr Jallow,
I am not in dispute with the words you have quoted in your latest posting,
as long as they attest to the supremacy of the constitution. Infact I
strongly believe that if there had been adherence to the constitution on
Jammeh's side, most of these quarrels would not have arisen.Even the
political discourse you made mention of, is aptly provided for and protected
by the constitution.
I have done my best to be as clear as possible in the spirit of
constructive dialogue. It is my ardent belief that all these discussions
should be geared towards attaining whats to the best interest of our country
and people, which makes it advisable that we endeavour to avoid being
emotive in our conclusions. But of course if you dont want to see the point
of my arguement you can dismiss it in anyway you feel appropriate.
My reason for looking at the two mindsets ( Jammeh's/Fatty's), is geared
towards having a more objective analysis of the reason(s) for the current
conflict between the two personalities. Again it is my wish to have a
broader perspective on issues rather than depend on the immediate and
obvious causes. This is better than being outrightly judgemental.
Even though I have the best of intentions towards the Gambia and Gambians, I
make no secret of the fact that I wish Jammeh's regime to make its exit from
the scene the soonest possible. Obviously, the current debacle is not to the
best interest of president Jammeh. Indeed a devastating quarrel between
Jammeh and Imam Fatty is one thing we need to advance our agenda for change.
But like many others, I am very concerned about its possible repercussions
on social cohesion and inter religious denominational relations. Thus my
insistence on adherence to the constitution.
Omar Joof.
