Dr Lamin Nafa Saho, a one time Minister of Information and Tourism, in
the erstwhile PPP regime, has passed away in the early hours of Sunday
morning in the United Kingdom, where he has been living for the past years.
According to reports reaching the Daily Observer, Dr Saho’s died after a
brief illness.
Dr Saho, a native of Salikenni, Central Baddibu, joined active politics
in 1977, and stood as an Indepedent candidate against Sherriff Mustapha
Dibba in the then Parliamentary elections for the Central Baddibu
Constitiuency, but was unable to win. In 1982, Dr Saho was again picked
to contest under the PPP ticket in the Parliamentry elections against
Sherriff Dibba of the NCP and subsequently won. He was re-elected in
1987, under the PPP ticket and eventually appointed as Minister of
Information and Tourism, the post he held until1990, when he was
replaced by Alkali James Gaye.

He, however, maintained his Parliamentry seat for the Central Baddibu
seat till 1992 Parliamentry elections when he lost to Sherriff Dibba of
the NCP.
After that, Dr Saho engaged himself in bussiness and established the
Atlantic Airlines, and served as its Executive Director.

In 2001, he joined the APRC and played an important role in that year’s
By-electioncampaign against the UDP in the Central Baddibu Constituency,
which was narrowly retained by the UDP. In the Presidential elections of
the same year, he served as a member of the APRC Campaign Commitee of
the North Bank Region.
H is body, according to family sources, will be flowned to The Gambia
soon and will be buried in his home village of Salikenni, Central Baddibu.
He is survived by two wives and children.
