Jammeh To Sack Listed Civil Servants

According to the Gambia Daily, President-elect, Yahya Jammeh on Thursday,
stated he has a new broom, and will start sweeping all those opposed to him
who are working in government departments. Civil servants opposed to the
APRC, he said, will lose their jobs starting Monday, he declared, pointing
out that he has a list of civil servants including headmasters, teachers,
directors and permanent secretaries, who played some dirty tricks during the
just-ended presidential elections.

The Gambian leader made these remarks at State House when the campaign
committee of the APRC in the Kanifing Municipality called on him to
congratulate him on his election victory. President-elect Jammeh, who spoke
at length, also said there are some NGOs within the country which should be
neutral in doing their work, but instead they were engaged in supporting the
opposition. He assured his audience that he will deal with them accordingly,
because they should not interfere in the internal affairs of The Gambia.

Those opposition militants who created problems by throwing stones at
vehicles, and burning the house of a National Assembly member, will be dealt
with severely without any compromise, Jammeh said, and that The Gambia will
have a democracy according to the laws of the country.

Meanwhile two top government officials were reportedly sacked last week.
Ousman Jammeh, permanent secretary in the department of State for Local
Government and Lands and Michele Sagar Mendy director in the Social Welfare
department. Up to date, they were not yet being replaced.
