The news report is correct.  However, the government in Taiwan calls their
islands (Formosa) the Republic of China(ROC).  Mainland China, with the only
internationally recognized government is officially called the People's
Republic of China (PRC).  The PRC is a permanent member of the Security
Council, the supreme body of the UN, and considers Taiwan a "renegade"
province of the PRC.
